"You should learn to how a treat women a little better."(Matthias)

"Is that right?"(Gilbert)

Gilbert wrinkled his eyebrows his eyebrows and gave a brief response. Matthias rested his arms on his desk and clasped his hands together. Even so, it's absurd for Gilbert, who rarely had an opportunity to interact with a lady. Matthias sighed, but Gilbert seemed reluctant.

"That's the way it is. I'm really grateful that you easily get along with me. However, I'm misunderstood by everyone else because I'm not good with words.(Matthias)

"I don't care what others think of me."(Gilbert)

They were currently in the Crown Prince's office. Only Gilbert and Matthias were present in the office as everyone else had been ordered to leave. Sophia was in the carriage of Marquis Forster. Gilbert and Matthias had come to the office after returning the horses to their stable.

"And what do you mean that you sensed nothing from Miss Sophia? I do not believe that there are any aristocrats in this country with more magical power than you, Gilbert."(Matthias)

"No, Your Highness. I don't think she has any magical power."(Matthias)

Gilbert looked down slightly. He is the Deputy Captain of the Second Platoon of the Imperial Knights of the Chivalric Order and a Magic Knight who is also the current head of Marquis Forster. His main task was to escort the Crown Prince but he also appeared on the front lines as a magical knight and interrogated suspects. It was not only because of his incomparable amount of magic power and his skill with the sword, but also because of his ability to read the fluctuations in the magical power of others. Fluctuations in magical power sometimes become images and sounds, and revealed the secrets and emotions of the people he came in contact with. It was easy for him to get information by guiding the suspects through the conversation.

Gilbert spread out his right hand, which he had used to touch Sophia.

"Gilbert?"(Matthias)

Matthias was looking at Gilbert curiously. Gilbert remained silent and reminisced the feeling of holding Sophia's hand. It would be a lie to say that he was not proud of his ability.

It was natural for him to read the emotions of those around him from a young age. People around him were afraid of his ability. Touching a person and feeling only the warmth of the skin and the frailness of the wrist was more shocking than Gilbert had expected.

"What the hell are you saying?"(Matthias)

"She probably has no magical power."(Gilbert)

"No magic? Such a thing..."(Matthias)

Matthias widened his eyes in surprise. Gilbert's words were unexpected. In this world, there were not many people with enough magical power and could not handle it well. Still, magic was considered to be as natural as flesh and blood. Even as punishment for criminals, magical power reduction was the only measure taken. Complete loss of magical power was synonymous with being crippled.

"I was also surprised."(Gilbert)

"I would have been suspicious if someone else had told me this."(Matthias)

"I'm sorry."(Gilbert)

Gilbert apologized without changing his expressions. Matthias thought he was calm, but Gilbert was upset in his heart. It is unlikely for a young noble woman to be sleeping in the forest. Not to mention that lack of magical power should be treated more carefully.

"So what about Miss Sophia's luggage?"(Matthias)

Gilbert looked down at the trunk at his feet. Sophia's bloody shoes were kept right next to it.

"Here, will your Highness check inside?"(Gilbert)

"No, I can't stand to check a woman's luggage without permission. Just in case, check what's in it."(Matthias)

Gilbert nodded and held the trunk in his hands. Images of the contents of trunk appeared in his mind as he circulated his magic around it. Gilbert put the trunk down after quickly checking it's contents.

"—There are clothes in it. It seems that she packed them in a hurry. There is one book and a little change."(Gilbert)

"Do you have the money with you?"(Matthias)

Gilbert refrained from telling Matthias the amount, whose expressions had softened slightly.  It was small change that would be exhausted if you bought three pieces of bread with it. It was like a small kid's pocket money.

"Yes, so what should I do?"(Gilbert)

Gilbert asked Matthias while trying not to see Sophia's shoes at the edge of his field of vision. Matthias smiled and nodded as if he had seen through Gilbert's heart.

"Take the morning off. It will be fine as long as you participate in the afternoon joint training, so take miss Sophia home. Also, get a doctor to see her."(Matthias)

"Thank you."(Gilbert)

Gilbert bowed in a perfect posture and left the office, holding the trunk and shoes in one hand. He was worried about Sophia. He felt that her wounds, wandering without magic or money, with minimal luggage, represented her pain. He was worried about the uncertainty of the first person whose heart he could not read.

Gilbert walked through the corridor, unaware of his surroundings. However, Gilbert, who is called "Black Knight" behind his back due his ruthlessness that made use of his magic and unreal beauty, just hurried with a stern look. The people around him avoided him and moved out of his way. Later, it was rumored that there had been an incident, but Gilbert wasn't interested at all.
